Bitcoin Mining Companies Report Increased Production in May 2025

Key Points:

  • MARA produced 950 BTC in May 2025.
  • Riot and CleanSpark stocks showed gains.
  • MARA grew their operational capacity significantly.

MARA Holdings, Riot Platforms, and CleanSpark reported significant increases in bitcoin production for May 2025 amid rising mining difficulties. This resulted in notable stock price gains in the market.

MARA Holdings mined 950 bitcoins in May 2025, marking a 35% jump from April. Amidst challenging conditions, they expanded their Ohio data center’s capacity to 100 MW. Infrastructure growth allowed them to install over 12,000 new miners.

Fred Thiel, MARA’s CEO, noted positive operational shifts despite rising mining difficulty. Their strategic decisions led to a year-over-year 174% increase in bitcoin holdings to reach 48,237 BTC in May. Meanwhile, Riot and CleanSpark reported stock increases of over 3.5%.

The bitcoin mining sector experienced early 2025 challenges due to high sell-offs. However, companies like MARA continued to bolster their holdings. The global hash rate had its second-largest gain, impacting miners’ revenues.

This operational improvement catalyzed a positive market response, reflected in the stock price increase. Projections indicate potential for future growth amid improving technological efficiencies, despite heightened mining challenges.

The industry could face regulatory shifts due to changing energy policies. Nonetheless, robust operations and high bitcoin prices enhance miners’ prospects, especially for those optimizing energy usage.

Fred Thiel, Chairman and CEO of MARA Holdings, remarked:

“In April, our production saw a 15% month-over-month decrease in blocks won, as global hashrate had its second largest monthly gain on record and mining difficulty grew 8% from March. Despite these headwinds, our energized hashrate grew 5.5% over the prior month.”
