‘Off the Grid’ Launches on Steam in 2025 Without NFTs

- Steam launch omits blockchain elements for policy compliance.
- Cross-platform play spans Steam, PS5, Xbox.
- NFTs remain on non-Steam platforms for game economy.
The Steam launch signifies the game’s strategic shift to broaden its audience while excluding blockchain elements to fit platform rules.
Off The Grid (OTG) was initially available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Epic Games Store in 2024. In June 2025, it will launch on Steam, adopting a novel approach by withdrawing blockchain elements. Cross-platform play will be a key feature, enhancing player collaboration across different systems.
Steam prohibits blockchain-based games, prompting Gunzilla Games to adapt OTG’s content for the platform. Players will experience limited cybernetic limbs, stripped of NFT attributes. The game maintains a strong storyline, with Neill Blomkamp, acclaimed for “District 9,” contributing creative expertise.
“Bringing Off The Grid to Steam is a major milestone for us, not just because of the platform’s reach, but because it allows us to welcome an entirely new wave of players into a game that’s been built hand-in-hand with the community. This launch is a celebration of that collaboration, and it’s only the beginning.” – Vlad Korolov, Co-founder and CEO, Gunzilla Games
With blockchain features removed for Steam, the game’s financial exchange will alter, potentially affecting players and developers. Gunzilla continues to develop its blockchain-enabled version on alternative platforms, thus preserving its crypto economy ambitions with their GUN token.
The adaptation could influence the future of blockchain gaming on major platforms, setting precedents for regulatory compliance. As the blockchain version remains active elsewhere, players can anticipate continuing NFT-based interactions, showcasing evolving game economies.
Gunzilla’s decision embodies a significant event in blockchain gaming, reflecting a possible trend for similar titles seeking exposure on mainstream platforms under restrictive policies.
